Eternal Beauty

Hey Beauties

So I was scrolling through the many blogs I read and I saw this quote at the top of  raspberrycheek's blog. I thought it was so beautiful and so true that I had to share it with you all.
So many people get judged on their appearance but in years to come when you're old and whatnot, you'll want someone who has beauty on the inside, not the outside. Looks are just a bonus.
Appreciate the beautiful people in your life because these days, real beauty is hard to find.

Disney Craze: Frozen

Hey Beauties!

So as you all know, the new Disney craze is Frozen and I have to say, I totally agree with where they're coming from.

I've only seen it once however I am OBSESSED with the soundtrack. It's cute and catchy and it's a real family feel good movie.

I love Disney movies so obviously I was going to see their new instalment. I didn't think I would be this hooked though!

There are quite a few good messages in this movie and, SPOILER ALERT, it's based on sisterly love rather than the typical Disney romance. Obviously there is romance but it's not the overriding message which I think is important.
As well as that they have finally made it clear in Disney movies that you can't marry someone you've just met.
About time!

Overall I love this movie, especially the characters. Some of the lines are almost heartbreaking they're just that adorable and I think it's fair to say that everyone will love Olaf.

If you haven't seen Frozen you need to! If you don't like it that's fine but I highly recommend it!

2014 Resoltuion Tag

Hey Beauties!

So as I was skimming through my blog list I found a tag by Elle Sees and decided I would take part. Her blog really is fabulous so you should definitely go check it out :)

This is the tag, not hard really so here are my New Years resolutions for 2014!

1. Bad Habit-
I know this probably sounds gross but picking and biting the skin around my nails. I've got this awful habit and I really hate it, especially considering I'm into beauty and nails and all that!

2. A New Skill-
I'd like to learn to read music. I've already started this because I absolutely love music yet I can't read it, well not fluently anyway.

3. A Person I Hope To Be Like-
This one's tricky. I don't think I could single out a particular person. I suppose I just want to be a better version of myself. In all honestly I'm happy with who I am and wouldn't want to change myself but I want to make an effort to take my qualities, talents and whatnot and just improve them.

4. A Good Deed I'm Going To Do-
I think this year I might try and do some voluntary work. I've never really done it before and I think it might be really good for me, to put people I don't know before me and help in whatever way I can.

5. A Place I'd Like To Visit-
I've already sort of planned a trip or two and have been there before but I'd like to spend more time in Melbourne. I absolutely adore cities and I'd love to make use of the one closest. Perhaps going to events, shopping, that sort of thing.

6. A Book I'd Like To Read-
Well by the sounds of things, school has already got a big long list of novels I've got to read but in terms of personal reading, I'd really like the read The Secret Garden. It was on the TV the other day and I watched some of it and thought, well that would be such a cute little read.

7. A Letter I'm Going To Write-
Well I've got a whole list of letters I've got to write to all my wonderful friends back home so I'll be kept very busy.

8. A New Food I'd Like To Try-
I'm not really a seafood person and I've got a feeling I'll hate them but for some odd and unknown reason, I really want to try scallops. I think it's from watching all those years of Master Chef and seeing them prepare them, I don't know.

9. I'm Going To Do Better At-
I think everything really but in particular my school work. I'm not a  slacker but I know this year I'll have more work than usual and I really want to keep up and have little or no pressure on my shoulders.

So there you have it. Now as the original tag suggests, this tag is open to EVERYBODY, so feel free to give it a go. If you do, be sure to leave a link in the description so I can read it!

Happy New Year!!!

So long 2013, hello 2014!

Hello Beauties!

By now you're probably thinking, "who's Crystal Tips?" because I've been gone for so long. Well I'm happy to announce I'm back in the game!

I'm really sorry for sort of vanishing into thin air. I guess it was due to a number of factors: School, exams and homework, my new lifestyle, laziness and a lack of enthusiasm. But I've decided to start blogging again and get back into the swing of things.

I'm going to make 2014 a good year in terms of blogging and what I write about. I want to inject some fun into my blog and perhaps create a new look.

I've set my goal and that's to create a fun, happy and enjoyable blog. So I now urge you to set yourself a major goal for 2014. We all make new years resolutions that we don't stick to, so set yourself one goal that you know you can keep.
It doesn't have to be about blogging. It could be a lifestyle related goal or a personality goal, whatever.

I'd love to here what your goals for 2014 are so feel free to leave them in the comments below :)

Happy New Year!

Life Lessons #1: Just Keep Swimming

I'm a huge believer in learning as many things from life as I can. Any negative situation I'm thrown into I almost always turn it into a positive.

Recently I went rollerblading with my friends and I've never really been so I didn't know what I was doing. I went whizzing round the rink keeping up with friends. Within the first 15 minutes I'd already fallen over 5 times. I fell and got a massive bruise/lump on my knee (which is still there!) and then smashed my nose on the floor. I got a small bruise from that as well. I'd also fallen on my arse a number of times so that kind of hurt! I was basically in so much pain and we were going to be there for another 3-4hours! I didn't think I wanted to keep going because of the pain I thought I'd have to go through again. I knew that I'd get bored just sitting there while my friends had fun.
But I continued. I got up, wiped my tears and rolled at my own pace. I took things slowly even though I wasn't with my friends. I eventually got the hang of it and didn't fall over. I will admit I did have a small tumble though and I crashed into some random chick :)

The point I'm trying to make is to try and take your experiences and turn them into a lesson. In a metaphorical term, my skating was like life. If you take things at everyone else's pace, you won't be able to keep up and get hurt along the way. If you get knocked down, don't give up. Get up, wipe off the dust and continue, even if it means leaving people behind. Even if you stop, the world won't; it'll continue. Don't waste your life because you'll regret it later.

Help!

For some people many problems in the world today only exist on TV simply because they haven't been exposed to them. I am one of these people.

Before, anxiety, depression, self harm and suicide seemed like distant problems. I never knew anyone who suffered from these things so to me they we almost non existent. How wrong I was.

I'm lucky enough that I don't suffer from any of these things but recently I have been exposed to them, especially suicide, and it can be extremely scary.

If you're reading this and you suffer from any of these things, you know how it feels. I'd just like to say how sorry I am that you are affected and you have my empathy.

If you don't suffer, you may be clueless about how these problems really effect people and that's not your fault.

If you know someone who suffers from anxiety, depression, self harms or has contemplated suicide PLEASE let them know you're there for them. You may not be able to do much because their problems are rooted deep, but if they know you're there for them and are willing to support them all the way, it makes the world of difference.

The little things in life that you can deal with, for example a break up, these people can't. Their moods can change in a second because of something that's been said or done.

Put yourself in their shoes. Just imagine if you woke you everyday unhappy. If you went to work, school etc and nobody acknowledged you or smiled; if you felt segregated from the world, like you weren't worth anything. If someone constantly sneered at you or made hurtful comments for no reason.
Just imagine it.

Please Please PLEASE let them know you are willing to help them. If you see someone on the street looking sad and depressed, smile at them.
If you're in a shop or anywhere and, for example, you like a person's make up or something they're wearing, tell them. A compliment means a whole lot more if it's from a stranger. You never know what that person is going through and you may have made their day from that one compliment.

I apologise for this being a "not so happy" post but these problems are REAL. 121 million people have some form of depression and 1million people commit suicide every year. That's too many.

I can't stress the importance of this. I understand it's hard to imagine, but when you are thrown a real life situation like this, it hits you like a slap in the face.

DON'T BLAME YOURSELF! If you have done nothing wrong and something serious happens to someone you know, please don't think it's your fault. When it comes to these situations, sometimes you really have no control over what's happening and you mustn't feel like you've caused the problems.

So please, if you can do just one thing, try and change someones life.

HOW TO: Fit In

Some of you will know what it's like to move somewhere and how difficult it can be to fit in or find friends. Your experience will differ depending on the type of person you are. If you are one of these people who finds friends in a flash, lucky you and that's not a bad thing., although some people won't have this "skill" and find it more difficult to do so. I don't find it difficult but I do know what it feels like to be in a place surrounded by people who have friends and you're there like a loner.

I thought I'd give some pointers on how to go about adjusting to a new place/area, more so in a community such as a club, school etc.

1. Smile. Just smile. Or at least put on a  friendly and welcoming face. If a person see's you're happy, they might want to talk to you more because you're giving off positive vibes.

2. Expectations. Don't expect the first person who talks to you to be your friend. This may happen, I'm not saying it can't, but don't have the expectation that they'll be you BBF just because they said hi. They may just be being polite, and of course there's nothing wrong with that.

3. Be yourself. There's only one of you in the world so don't change yourself just so people will accept you. Also you are your own biggest critic. Things that you may not favour about yourself other people may love, so don't change just to fit in. It'll be difficult to keep up and you won't feel right in your own skin.

4. Have patience. Just because people don't run up to you the minute you get to school or wherever doesn't mean you won't make friends at all. I made friends on the first day and was still making new ones the following few weeks.

5. Get involved. If you stand on the sidelines, you won't be noticed. If you get involved in classes, games, sport etc, you'll find you enjoy yourself, and especially if someone shares the same interests as you they may want to talk.

There's no wrong or right way about making friends. Like I said, your experience will differ depending on who you are, what sort of a place you're in and the type of people surrounding you. You may find it hard to make friends and if so, don't blame yourself. You may find that it's everyone else, not you, so don't get too down.

You don't have to follow what I've said, they're just pointers. If you've got anything to add, I'd love to hear it

:)

HOW TO: make the best out of life

Moving somewhere is a huge deal, whether it's house, town or country.  So much preparation goes into a move as well as a lot of money!

I had to pack my bags and travel from Ireland all the way to Australia. It's probably the biggest and most exciting thing I've ever done in my life. But, it wasn't all plain sailing. You probably think: “Sure, all I have to do is pack my stuff in bags and do a bit of cleaning because mum and dad are doing the rest.”
It sounds that simple but it's not. Most of the time while we were preparing, I was happy; really happy in fact. I had a huge fantasy of what our new house would be like, how I would design my room and all the new things I could get, which is the natural thing anyone would do.

I was really looking forward to it. But then I was told that it may take quite a long time to get everything looking like a home again. This really hit me emotionally and I realised how big the situation actually was. I cried because I was so overwhelmed by everything. (Don't be afraid to cry, just let it all out!) I started thinking that everything was going to go wrong and that by the time the house would be a home, I would have already moved out etc etc.

I'm usually quite a positive person and this was unlike me. I sat down and decided I would make a list of all the positive things about moving, rather that focusing on the negatives. (I love lists!)
Honestly, it helped. Loads. I managed to come up with sixteen positive things about moving. SIXTEEN! If you write down sixteen words on a sheet of paper, it is a lot. And for me, it out did the negatives by a mile;and it made me realise that yes, this move wasn't going to be easy and that I would have to put work into it (even though my parents had loads more!), but I knew that I would get there in the end.
Most things in life will eventually work themselves out. You've just got to except and deal with the things you can't change but make the best out of all the things you can.

I love making lists because I find I accomplish a lot more that way. You don't have to be moving anywhere to make a positive list. You can be in any situation. Just try and stay as positive as possible. Things are a lot easier when you're positive.

One thing that got me through the move (and sometimes life ) was an arrow. You probably think it's weird, but it's symbolic. It means this:
An arrow must be pulled backwards before it can go forwards. If ever you're feeling down in life and feel that nothing's in your favour, just think, you may go shooting into something amazing.
At some point, I want to get it tattooed on my side because 1.I love tattoos and 2. it's a constant reminder to be positive and stuff

I hope that I have helped someone. If not, well, you may need it one day. If I have, I'm glad I've been able to help you :)
You can also apply this to everyday situations. Even if you're just stuck in traffic, there's no milk in the fridge, you didn't do your homework, whatever the case make be: turn your negative thought into a positive one and the world will seem a whole lot better.
